The Graham town council meets tonight to discuss disposing of $20 000 in bonds and to review the sewerage proposition. Action was delayed at the last meeting due to bid conditions and a near crisis. bluefield’s new council now assumes duties.
Graham voters yield a split council result with J B Graham Democrat 78 and H C Calloway Republican 74 leading. Treasurership ends in a 48 48 tie between R H Palmer incumbent and J B Morton. Virginia law allows a coin flip or a new election to settle the tie. Palmer has mounted ties in prior contests.
The official ballot results show S. N. Huford and J. E. Beyler failing to gain re election while Buck Harding, not a candidate, received one vote for mayor. The report notes these names as valued members of the old council.
Capt. Jack Carter of Carterton-on-the-Clinch died Monday at an acquired age. He had long been a prominent citizen and represented his district in Virginia's state senate. He lived single for many years before marrying recently and leaves a valuable estate. The funeral was held yesterday.
