Demolition set for Grant Street Bridge in Bluefield

Bluefield officials announced demolition of the structurally deficient Grant Street Bridge will start in early July, allowing work on a new 330 foot span. An $8 million state contract funded by federal, state, and local sources backs the replacement with completion aimed for April 2022. Interim City Manager Colin Cline briefed the Board of Directors.

Mercer County Commission discussed a proposed 14 percent increase in daily charges by the West Virginia Regional Jail Authority. The hike would raise housing an inmate from $48.25 to $54 per day, a change not officially communicated to county officials yet.
