Randall M. Albert of CONSOL Energy told the Bluefield Rotary Club that methane from coal beds turned a dangerous underground hazard into a profitable business. Since 1983 CONSOL began venting gas, and in 1992 moved to piping methane to Mingo County, making gas a major earnings contributor while CNX Gas employs 86 people with sizable capital expenditures.
