Record heat bakes central Plains with several new records
An Associated Press report notes a heat wave pushing central Plains highs to new marks including 107 degrees in Dodge City Kansas and 102 in Minneapolis. Des Moines and Sioux City tied or broke records, while humidity produced heat indices above 100. Southeast heat persisted with nine deaths in Alabama from the heat and storms across Minnesota and the Gulf Coast.
