Stocks fall as Bernanke offers no stimulus
Major indexes closed lower as Federal Reserve Chairman Bernanke said the economic recovery remains uneven and showed no new stimulus steps. The Dow fell 19.15 to 12070.81, the S P 500 dipped to 1284.94, and the Nasdaq slid to 2701.56 amid hopes for policy action. Labor data showed 3 million April job ads, down from 3.1 million in March, adding to signs of an employment crisis. International Paper and Temple-Inland saw takeover moves, while Cablevision spun off networks, including AMC, on June 16.

Judge reaffirms campaign finance ruling
A federal judge reaffirmed an earlier ruling that a ban on corporate contributions to federal candidates is unconstitutional. Judge James Cacheris cited the Citizens United decision to support equal rights for corporate donations, clarifying the ruling applies only as it pertains to this specific case involving two men and Hillary Clinton's 2008 campaign.
