Iran says Iran-led attack on Stark by Iraqi jet
An Iran Revolutionary Guard official in Lebanon claimed Tehran ordered the Iraqi pilot to strike the USS Stark, while U.S. officials denied involvement. The Iraqi missile attack killed 37 sailors and crippled the ship in the Persian Gulf, with Iraq saying it mistook Stark for an Iranian warship. Iran’s leaders and Rafsanjani previously said a secret plan lured Stark into a trap. The rally was sponsored by Hezbollah in south Lebanon.
