Princeton PDMA eyes town fair to fund new community center
Princeton Downtown Merchants Association backs a Jaycee proposed town fair as a revenue source for a planned 15,000 square foot community center. Dr. David Najaar says a $10,000 yearly haul could help retire debt, with St Albans Jaycees already using fairs to fund projects. The plan relies on city land sales and existing funds to cover the remaining roughly $200,000, and a 2.7 acre parcel sale could yield $100,000 to $130,000. The Jaycees would organize the event if community interest exists, potentially in 1980, with booths and activities including a carnival and vendors. Merchants also vote to keep Friday night hours.

House Panel Adds 350000 For Re-Evaluation In Haysi
Rep. William C. Wampler announced in the appropriations committee mark-up session that 350000 was added for a reevaluation of the Haysi Lake project for fiscal year 1980. The measure, part of the committee’s recommendations to the House, would fund general investigations by the Corps of Engineers despite the administration’s budget omitting specific Haysi funds. Wampler stressed flood-control needs in southwestern Virginia and urged full local public participation during reevaluation to address river flood hazards.
