Mine Union Rejects Koppers Proposals
The CIO United Mine Workers refused a Koppers proposal for striking workers at the Follansbee and East Stubenville plants to return during talks with retroactivity to May 29. Federal mediator John O Connor left the state, halting progress. The union seeks 70 1/2 cents per hour wage increase. Koppers says a prior raise of 10 cents in April makes another rise unaffordable.
