Propeller pitch shift speeds up planes in flight
Santa Barbara tests show varying propeller pitch from the cockpit to control speed. Designers Ben Hawkins and pilot Gordon Sackett say changing bite can raise speed without engine changes and shorten landing runways. They claim gear controlled props can maintain 750 rpm to equal 1450 rpm on fixed props, with 50 percent rpm reduction possible.
