Welfare case to hear testimony on benefits restoration in West Virginia
A special commissioner will hear evidence in Kanawha County regarding a lawsuit by Jackson County lawyer Larry Harless seeking to restore welfare benefits for hundreds of West Virginians cut off under a 60 month federal limit. The suit targets DHHR actions and seeks restoration for families in McDowell County and beyond, with economists slated to discuss south regional unemployment and counties including McDowell, Mercer, Wyoming, Fayette and Boone. The petition argues violations of constitutional rights to minimum humane sustenance and improper notices, asking the high court to order restoration of benefits.
