The Preakness stewards upheld Codex after a protest by Genuine Risk owners over Angel Cordero’s ride. Slow motion footage showed Cordero veering off Genuine Risk to the outside as Jacinto Vasquez rode Risk. Critics call the ruling protective of the winner, while others, including this observer, see a lack of courage from the stewards in a race with historical controversy.
