Congress Axes 3.48 Million Transfer Of Naval Station To Sugar Grove
In Washington, the House Armed Services Committee eliminated a 3.48 million dollar item to move the navy radio receiving station from Cheltenham Maryland to Sugar Grove West Virginia. Rear Admiral D F Roeder testified the Cheltenham site suffers interference from nearby growth while Sugar Grove offers a cleaner location and salvageable work. Chairman Carl Vinson urged further study after previous costly efforts, noting the project’s uncertain results.
