Syria weighs federation plan with United Arab Republic
Damascus Premier Bashir Azmeh announced steps toward a partial restoration of Syria's union with the United Arab Republic proposing a federal federation while preserving Syria's sovereignty. He said contacts with Egypt would begin on this basis and expressed hope Iraq under Premier Abdul Karim Kassem would join.

Ban On Case Lot Sales Cuts West Virginia Liquor Profits
Charleston AP A Kanawha County grand jury prompted a ban on case lot liquor sales at the Charleston warehouse reducing profits. Commissioner Clarence Elmore reported April 3 net profits at 8 042 508 versus 8 545 417 year to date 1961 with full year projection near 9 200 000 about 593 000 less than 1961. The December drop followed stopping of special orders.
