Phoenix uses ice immersion to treat heatstroke victims
Phoenix firefighters adopt cold water immersion to rapidly lower body temperature of heatstroke patients while en route to hospitals. The method, used by Valleywise Health, stations cooling gear on all EMS units and operates at overnight cooling stations as heat waves push triple digit temperatures across the Southwest and Maricopa County reports 645 heat related deaths last year.
