Churches split over Scouts welcoming gay youth in vote aftermath
In suburbs across Atlanta and Idaho and other states churches have begun severing ties with the Boy Scouts after the May vote allowing openly gay youth to participate. SBC leaders plan a resolution urging affiliated churches to end sponsorships, while some congregations already pull out including Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta and Candlelight Christian Fellowship in Coeur d'Alene. The LDS Church maintains ties and supports the new policy, while United Methodist leaders tread a middle path as divisions grow among sponsors.
