Anthrax scare disrupts Princeton DHHR office

An anthrax scare at the DHHR building in Princeton caused the area to be sealed and evacuated. Fire crews in Haz Mat suits investigated after a caller reported a white powder in a public restroom. No harmful substance was found. the powder was toilet paper.

GED graduates celebrate in Tazewell County ceremony

The Tazewell County Adult Education center held its annual GED graduation ceremony at Tazewell Middle School. About 156 of roughly 300 eligible students earned certificates with 50 expected to attend the ceremony, honoring ages from 16 to older adults. Bluefield Mayor Bill King delivered the keynote, with Sen. Phillip Puckett and Delegate Jackie Stump also recognized.

Kazanjian couple crowned 2002 SummerFest belles

Ruth and Phil Kazanjian of Princeton were named the 2002 SummerFest belle and beau during a sunny ceremony. They are longtime residents with Navy service backgrounds and active in veterans groups. The event also featured the James H. Drew Carnival in the city park with rides, food, and concerts, and runs through Friday with additional weekend activities such as a chili cook off and wrestling events.

Princeton woman charged with counterfeiting at bingo center

A Princeton resident, Davie Small, 35, was arrested at Mountain State Bingo after allegedly passing two counterfeit $50 bills with identical serial numbers. Mercer County Sheriff’s Sgt. A D Beasley cited the scene at 9:20 p.m. and two counts of counterfeiting. she was arraigned and released on a $5,000 bond.
