First Meeting of the New City Council
The new council held its first meeting last night with most members present. The roster lists mayor E K Carter and 17 others, with Mr Felts absent. Salaries were set, offices elected including city attorney John R Dillard, and the council adjourned to Friday night.

Coal operators converge for conference in Washington
A large gathering of coal operators from the Paraboutas field met in Raleigh hotel and traveled to Washington on Saturday for a regular conference on car distribution and related matters. Attendees included Ed Cooper, I F Ferrell, T E Houston, J Elkboro, Eliwood Jones, Jackson Jones, J H Holt, and L E K Johnson of the Norfolk and Western, though his presence did not link to the coal meeting.
