Pulaski man found guilty of attempted assault and sentenced to hang
Edward Payne, a Dublin Virginia defendant, was found guilty on an attempted criminal assault charge after a trial in Pulaski. The jury urged death, the court sentenced Payne to be hanged in July, argues for life were denied as mobs loomed before the verdict. Payne, a resident of Pulaski, had been described as a reasonably good looking man who had schooling.

The Bluefield Colored Institute stage featured declamations recitations solos and choruses with many performers showing high talent. The program praised the school's management and Prof Hatter as a leading educator. Tonight the final exercises will award diplomas by State Superintendent Miller.
