Off-duty deputies take over airport security
Deputies have replaced National Guard troops at Mercer County Airport as off-duty officers from multiple agencies provide security under a private contract. Mercer County Sheriff Chief Deputy R E Earnest says the airport pays for coverage and that state law allows officers to work security while off duty. Airport Authority member Laura Gooch says the arrangement has operated for about a month and seems to work well with consistent coverage for all arrivals and departures.

FEMA flood buyout program aids West Virginia Virginia homeowners
FEMA explains a voluntary mitigation program allowing communities to buy flood damaged homes at pre flood value to move residents out of harm’s way and save future recovery costs.
