Rusting ships part of strategic naval reserve
Fort Eustis Virginia hosts the 331 ship National Defense Reserve Fleet with World War II Victory ships and others aging near Norfolk. Critics in the House Small Business subcommittee question the fleet as waste of money while experts defend it as a strategic asset for moving heavy Army equipment in an emergency. Grass grows on decking of SS Buckner as rusting hulks await possible activation or scrapping.
