Attorney fees barred from car title as partial payment
Special Mercer County Circuit Judge Jerome Katz issued a permanent injunction prohibiting McKinney’s former lawyer from obtaining title to an automobile as partial payment of attorney fees. He also entered a $5,429.50 judgment against McKinney for unpaid fees to Ben B. White Jr. The case notes McKinney’s 1982 murder conviction and that White claimed a verbal agreement existed, which McKinney denied. The car title had been signed before McKinney’s penitentiary transfer and was with his cousin, Toni Porterfield, who attempted to sell it without meeting McKinney’s price. The judge found no signed written contract authorizing such payment.
