Library Provides Books At Mercer County Jail
Jerry Flanigan of Princeton Public Library sets up a 200 volume jail library at the Mercer County Jail after a request from Sheriff Jack Scott. The collection includes westerns mysteries science fiction and romances and will be evaluated and expanded over time with ongoing input from staff and inmates.

Salem Man Hurled In High Speed Rt 61 Wreck
A 46 year old Salem man John Edward Clarence Austin escaped death when his car ran off the right shoulder on Virginia Rt 61 east of Tazewell. The vehicle then skidded, climbed an embankment, went airborne, and stopped on its top. Austin was treated at Clinch Valley Clinic Richlands for head facial arm lacerations possible concussion and possible internal injuries. He was charged with reckless driving.

Pass Jury Selection Nears in Yablonski Slayings Case
Jury selection set to begin in Erie Pa for the murder trial of Albert E Pass a former UMW International Executive Board member from Kentucky. Pass faces charges in the 1969 killings of Joseph Yablonski his wife and daughter alleging a kickback funded murder plot.
