London June 3 The St Peters burg correspondent of the Standard says the government suspects the temper of troops in Manchuria and at home Private letters report General Linovitch ordered 25 officers and 300 men executed The officers were shot and the men hanged The officers allegedly distributed proclamations found on the soldiers The Taarkoe-Selo council rumors hint at a Japanese Baltic expedition possibility
Tangier June 2 The sultan informs St Rene Talillandier that he cannot accept the French reform proposals for Morocco administration. He will convey the decision in a formal note from Mohammed el Torres minister of foreign affairs and seek powers views for a conference on reforms.
Servia warns Turkey of recall of its minister in Constantinople if redress is not given by June 12 for the Monastir consulate incident. Local police reportedly searched the consulate, seizing papers. Levin seeks punishment for the police chief and official compensation plus government regret.
Clarence Smith aged 14 died at the home of Harry Gordon in Cranbury after tying a halter to his waist to ride a horse that pulled back and dragged him across farm machinery. Mrs Gordon witnessed the accident from a window but could not intervene.
James Dalton, a colored man from Simmons, killed his son Leake while the boy slept in their home. Dalton fired twice with a thirty two caliber pistol, one shot to the head and another to the heart, then lingered near the scene before fleeing to North Carolina. A fund is being raised as a reward for his capture.

A group of ladies enjoyed an afternoon bowling at Lindsey and Akers alleys yesterday. The pastime is growing in popularity with several skilled female bowlers in the city. Rome reports Pope Pius X turns seventy today born in Riese in 1835. Close aides say his ascent to St Peter’s throne brought few changes in daily life though duties require stricter habits. His sisters and relatives stay in Rome while the pope plans a summer at Castle Gondolfo amid vast grounds overlooking the Mediterranean and Lake Albano, a short rail trip from Rome.
New York June 3 James Haren Hyde and associates still control the Equitable Life Assurance Society. A full board meeting failed to settle troubles and widened the breach with several directors likely to sever ties within twenty four hours. Henry O Frick, chair of the investigating committee, resigned after its report was voted down. Hyde’s pledge to divest control will be enacted and executives may be removed as a new chairman with broad powers is to be elected.
Miss Lena Erwin of Wilkesboro and 8 F Shore of Yadkin were to wed at the bride’s home when R E Lee of North Wilkesboro persuaded her to marry him instead. Lee secured a minister and tied the knot before Shore and guests arrived, prompting Shore to leave town on the first train.
Capt. Mary Green, commander of the Ohio river steamboat Greenland, the nation’s only licensed woman pilot and captain, saved many lives during a panic when a hurricane forced the ship to collide with a floating theatre. With 200 aboard and the steering failing, she calmly ordered passengers to stay calm as the bow struck the showboat, guiding her passengers to safety while watching from the bow with her two young sons by her side.
In New Orleans a white liveryman Ernest Lacour killed by a negro band from Natchez. After a confrontation with Lacour's driver the men armed themselves and shot Lacour, killing him instantly. Five suspects were captured. one was hanged and the other four handed to authorities.
In Winston-Salem on June 2, J. W. Hammons was found guilty of murder in the first degree for shooting his wife on April 29. Judge Cook ordered the execution by hanging between 1 and 4 p.m. on Thursday July 20. Hammons showed nervousness as the sentence was pronounced.
Reports from Scutari Albania describe a major earthquake yesterday in Montenegro with two shocks felt across the region. Over 500 structures collapsed and nearly 200 people were killed or injured amid widespread damage.
The Jones & Laughlin Steel Company via the Vesta Coal Company bought 10,000 acres of Washington county coal land for about 3,000,000 dollars. She has only one child.
Michael D. Nolan, a longtime Albany resident and early brewer, known for his political activity and involvement in Saratoga racing, died in Albany at age 72 after a prolonged illness. He was a pioneer in the local brewing scene and helped shape regional racing interests.
