A St Petersburg dispatch notes British merchants lament falling imports into Russia, while American steam coal sales surge with over 60,000 tons bought for the Russian railway. Coal merchants blame North English shippers for war clause refusals on coal sold last autumn after the South African conflict.
Clarence McDaniel was killed Thursday night near Camp B by two Walton and Luck rail workers, Mike O'Brien and Dan Cain. After drinking, they hired a buggy from Radford, forced McDaniel to take a drop, fought him, and one struck him in the temple with a heavy instrument, killing him instantly before fleeing.
