Manufacturing growth slows more than expected

U S manufacturing expanded at a slower pace in May with the NF PMI slipping to 51.4 from 52.9 in April as Asia’s financial troubles weighed on exports and imports. The reading surprised economists and sparked discussions on the economy’s durability while markets saw little need for near term Fed rate hikes. Construction spending rose in April for the fifth straight month, boosted by low rates tied to Asia’s turmoil.
