Labor board orders firm to respond to union firing claim
The National Labor Relations Board charged Interrex Corp. of Oak Hill with firing 63 workers in March for union activity. The two week reply deadline targets the Cairn Studios Ltd. parent company in Davidson, North Carolina. Interrex officials could not be reached for comment. The firm said the workers were let go for not meeting production quotas at the Fayette Plateau plant opened in 1989 where employees paint collectible figurines.

Soering pleads innocent as murder trial begins
Jens Soering, 23, pleads innocent in Bedford County court to two counts of first degree murder in the slayings of Derek Haysom, 72, and Nancy Haysom, 53, at their Lynchburg area home on March 30, 1985. His parents and brother attend as opening arguments set for Monday. Elizabeth Haysom had previously pleaded guilty to aiding the murders.
