Nursing home groundbreaking held in Bland
Groundbreaking for a 57 bed nursing home was held in Bland County town of Bastian. Senator Danny Bird and Becky Gunn attended with about 100 people. The George B. Kegley Manor near Bland Medical Clinic honors local physician George B. Kegley Sr. Construction by Wessex Corp is expected to finish in April 1987. A 14 member board of directors was formed to operate the facility.

West Virginia veterans leader Ernestine Thornton says plans to build a Capitol memorial expanded this month to honor Korean War, World War II and World War I veterans satisfy the VVA. Thornton, a 1960s Army nurse, spoke at a Charleston Rotary event about her service and respect for all service members. Also in Charleston, the state Department of Highways invites West Virginia businesses to place logos on I-77 signs near Edens Fork to Ohio, with limits on logos per exit and distance rules. In State College, WV placed second in the American Regions Mathematics League B Division, with North Carolina winning. John Overbeck of Columbia, Md., took the individual title.
