The Department of Justice arranged for Judge Waddill of the U S district court of Virginia to grant a hearing July 10 on government action to force nine fertilizer trust officers in Virginia to answer Tennessee indictments charging anti trust violations.
At the University of Maryland centennial celebration Dr Stanley Hall warned of a growing tendency toward celibacy among graduates and the cultivated classes. He discussed declining birth rates in Europe and the United States.

In Rayville Louisiana June 1 a base ball game between Rayville and Vidalia ended in a free for all after Prof Leo Lee a local self styled hypnotist pitched for Rayville. Allegations said he used his powers on struck out batters sparking the melee. Bats were swung but no skulls were broken due to crowd interference.
Fayette county jail inmate George Hill awaiting transfer to the penitentiary for a seven year robbery sentence was fatally stabbed this evening by fellow inmate Howard who is serving a jail term. The weapon used was a Barlow knife. Both are African American.

The board of supervisors met at city hall with full attendance and elected W S Foutz president and J T Akers auditor for the coming year. G R Newkirk became chief of police with several patrolmen named plus two more to be chosen. The annual police report listed numerous minor offenses and total arrests at 278 percent with felony counts to be reported later. The board adjourned to meet Monday at 8 o'clock.
The Interstate Commerce Commission will draft recommendations to Congress to implement President Roosevelt’s Indianapolis speech on federal oversight of railroads. Commissioner Lane supports the president’s ideas including a federal franchise law and tighter regulation of capitalization and bond issues. The panel plans a meeting next autumn to discuss forwarding the proposals.
Mrs Martha Roberts aged 18 was mortally wounded by her husband William Roberts twelve years her senior at her mother's home in Cleveland. He had begged her to withdraw the divorce suit. she refused and he returned to fire, striking her with two bullets in a critical condition.
