Athens to get Safe Routes to School grant
Athens School will share in a $1 million West Virginia grant program to improve student health and safety routes to campus. The Get Athens Children on the Move project will receive $75,000 to fund sidewalk, crosswalk, and signage upgrades and encourage walking or biking to school this fall. Local organizers say the program boosts wellness and reduces traffic around schools. The initiative is part of the Federal Safe Routes to School program administered by the FHWA.
