Famous Old Pioneer Awaits the Last Call
Jacob Smith of Williamson near the Kentucky line, a wealthy Big Sandy valley figure, lies near death from pneumonia at 85. He recently dictated a will naming heir Will M Swita and leaving a fortune perhaps over a million. Known for coal and timber lands in Pike county and a stubborn pioneer pricing ethic, he built a mercantile store at Pond Creek and kept prices high, valuing old customer trust.
