A special term of the federal court will begin Tuesday August 5 in Bluefield to hear cases against strikers accused of violating an injunction. Many witnesses are expected as miners’ lawyers plan to demand jury trials, testing trial by jury rights.
The state warden notes rapid industrial growth with railroads mines and camps but argues game and fish will not be exterminated. He says deer and birds stay in forests and fields if laws protect them and proper conditions allow streams to be stocked and forests become preserves.
In Boston games the first tilt ended 0 to 1 with Chicago scoring one run on four Chicago hits and Boston registering no runs on two hits. The second game saw Chicago win 3 to 1 as Boston managed six hits and one error while Chicago had thirteen hits and four errors. In Brooklyn Brooklyn led 5 to 1 over Pittsburg with seven hits and no errors for Brooklyn and two errors for Pittsburg. In New York the hosts posted two runs on eight hits with two errors as St Louis managed one run on five hits and one error. The Philadelphia Cincinnati game was postponed due to rain.
The emperor awarded several decorations to Americans during Prince Henry's visit to the United States. Police Commissioner Partridge and Detective Capitue of New York received the crown order of a third class. Mayors of Philadelphia Cincinnati St Louis and others who aided in entertaining Prince Henry were honored.

In McKendree near Hunnington West Virginia Charles McCullom died from seven bullets fired by fourteen year old Jesse Hoskins. The youth confronted McCullom in a house after months of hatred toward the man his mother’s companion was present when the shots were fired. The boy testified he was pleased with his work and was sent to reform school.
Pat Finnerty, proprietor of Eakin restaurant in New Martinsville, West Virginia, secretly pursued a long‑lost sweetheart from Lawrence, Mississippi. She married another man and later became a widow. After forty years apart they renewed contact in town and married, with friends predicting a possible reunion.
Bernard Rice one of the strike agitators sentenced to 60 days in Wood County jail for injunctive violation has been freed on his own recognizance after a remittance of sentence Judge Jackson indicated others may also be released for good conduct while serving terms At the jail supporters celebrated and Rice planned to visit Mother Jones in Clarksburg before returning home to Iowa where his wife and health are concerns
Garrett and Hudson of Keystone West Virginia offer two brick store houses on Princeton Avenue to rent starting August 1 for ten days. The units are one door west of Bluefield Hardware and in first class order with two upper flat rentals also available. The rental offer expires August 10, 1902 unless leased earlier.

Winchester July 30 Mrs Mahala Smith widow of Joseph Smith died at Pleas antdale on her hundredth birthday. A former Miss Bloxall from Loudoun County Virginia she was known for beauty wit and sprightliness in early nineteenth century Northern Virginia society.
