Restraining Order Halts Kent State Construction Near 1970 Shooting Site

A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order stopping work on a 6 million gymnasium annex at Kent State University following protests. Miners Reject Return to Work in West Virginia Strike

UMW District 29 vote to resume work fails as about 42,000 to 46,000 miners statewide stay idle. A Friday meeting in Beckley backed District 17's Washington march plans and called for resignations of Funds trustee Harry Huge and director Martin B. Danzinger. A strike fund was proposed while Kentucky losses from a wildcat strike were cited at about 72,000 dollars daily.

Rockwell weighs layoffs at Princeton West Virginia plant

Rockwell International plans a workforce review at its Princeton West Virginia facility amid declining business. James E. Morrison, longtime Princeton plant head since 1961, has been reassigned to California as Thomas A. Stewart acts as interim manager. The 143–employee plant may face further cuts as new contracts are pursued.

June's Economic Signs Drop and Forecasted Growth

The Commerce Department reports a six tenths drop in the leading indicators index for June due to weaker demand for raw materials, following a smaller May decline. Officials, including Blumenthal and Burns, forecast continued growth in the second half, with inflation risks and a potential slower pace but unemployment still falling. Building permits and several indicators rose, offsetting parts of the downturn.

Bluefield Hospital Under Construction Dedicates 250-bed Center

The $20 million Bluefield Community Hospital on a 25acre site between Cherry Street and Stadium Drive was dedicated Friday with officials including former Gov Arch Moore Jr and Rep Nick Rahall in attendance. The facility aims to attract physicians and nurses and enhance regional medical services with completion expected in late 1978 or early 1979.
