The Wednesday concert in Town Square is moved to Friday due to extreme heat. The event features Tonway 6, the Bluehounds, Keith Bailey, Andrea LaShue, and Heather Leslie with a preview of Hinton’s Water Festival. Barbara Hawkins cited heat and humidity as the reason for the one week delay.

Swan song honors three Bluefield board members
In a City Hall meeting Bluefield bid farewell to Mayor Paul Cole and Vice Mayor Ben Paine along with Paul Oliver ending 12 and 16 years on the council. New leadership will take over with Mayor Joe Long and board members Dave Shields and Webster Gilbreath. Paine urged civic service while Oliver reflected on his tenure as residents witnessed a Planned Unit Development vote to convert the old Beacon Baptist Church into a funeral home. Willie Shelley was named Employee of the Month for July and a curfew ordinance amendment was introduced.
