Rattle Snake Captured Near Madison Heads to National Zoo
In Boone county near Madison a three foot eleven inch ornate rattler with thirteen rattles and a button was captured by William B. Gardner of the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company. The snake, praised as one of the finest in the state, will live at the National Zoo in Washington. Gardner led the capture with a forked stick while working on construction.

Peacemaker dies as family shooting unfolds in Morgantown
In Morgantown West Virginia on July 25 Mrs Martha Hart intervened between her father Mark Swan and husband J J Hart as a pistol was fired. Swan was arrested on a second degree murder charge and Hart sought a 2500 bond to transport Martha Hart’s body to Carnegie Pennsylvania for funeral services. The quarrel at the Swan home escalated when Swan allegedly shot at his son in law, Martha Hart grabbing her father’s arm before a second shot fatally wounded her.
