Passion for mine safety through weather research and business
Jesse Jones of Bluefield recounts an unusual January storm while reflecting on a lifetime in weather, weather related research and mining safety. A Navy veteran, he studied weather effects on navigation and missile guidance before moving to southern West Virginia. He worked with AT&T and earned a Maryland electrical engineering degree in 1971. Jones later founded Sentry Mine Supply in 1976 to install and service mining safety equipment.

BRMC Expands Ambulatory Surgical Center in Bluefield
Bluefield Regional Medical Center is expanding its 14,000 square foot Regional Surgical Services Inc. ambulatory center opened last year near Mayflower Seafood. The multi specialty facility targets 3,300 patients annually and currently operates three days a week with surgeries on Wednesdays. About five patients are seen per surgery day and a second day may open once a second surgeon is certified.
