Prices rise barely while spending grows and savings fall
Americans’ personal income in June rose 0.1 percent as spending gained 0.6 percent. Personal savings fell from 151.6 to 133.2 billion dollars. Gasoline and food prices edged higher while housing costs climbed 0.5 percent. Durable goods orders jumped 2.1 percent, the largest gain in months, as factory orders rose for civilian and defense goods. The CPI index stood at 327.9, with the basket priced at 32.79 dollars in June 1986 compared to 32.23 in June 1985.
