Flash flood hits Goodwill Hollow evacuations rise

A flash flood roared through Goodwill Hollow near here Thursday night, sending several families fleeing as Goodwill and Duhring creeks overflowed. Rain totals in the McComas Montcalm area reached 1.5 to 2 inches, with officials warning not to drink contaminated water. Crews stabilized the scene by 9:30 pm. six families remained away from home at 10:30 pm as responders monitored receding waters and prepared to open a Red Cross shelter.

Chambers oppose pushbutton legislation

The Greater Bluefield and Princeton Mercer County Chambers of Commerce joined other groups in opposing the Pushbutton Strike Bill before the U S Senate. At noon luncheons both chambers voted unanimously. Marshall Miller and Bill Sheppard cited amendments to the National Labor Relations Bill and urged action before the Senate acts.
