Clinton poised for Democratic nomination at New York convention

Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton stood at the brink of the Democratic presidential nomination as Governor Mario Cuomo urged change from Madison Square Garden. Cuomo praised Clinton as a moderate reformer. Mercer County Calendar Highlights Special Session and Post Office Visits

Frazier to rule on Bluefield districting plan

Mercer County Circuit Judge John Frazier will rule on Bluefield's district voting plan or a hybrid system by August 3 at 3 p.m. The city board recently accepted a plan realigned by the Election Study Commission using Census figures and shifting precincts 15 33 from District 1 to District 3 and 28 from District 3 to District 2. Citizens vote at their regular precinct.

Corte wins bid on $1.4 million water upgrade in Bluefield

Corte Construction Company of Bluefield, Virginia, is the apparent low bidder on a nearly 1.4 million town water system upgrade. Four bids, including Corte’s 1,374,332, exceeded the 1,321,095 projection. The Farmers Home Administration must review bids before a contract is awarded, with potential approval leading to October award and November start.
