International space mission launches link two nations

American astronauts and Soviet cosmonauts began a historic joint mission with flawless launches. Alexei Leonov and Valeri Kubasov entered orbit from Baikonur, while Thomas Stafford Vance Brand and Donald Slayton lifted from Cape Canaveral. A minor camera failure and minor overloads did not dampen the first live Soviet countdown telecast, watched globally.

Price Waterhouse Accused in DMC Debenture Case

CHARLESTON W Va A New York certified accountant firm has again been accused of helping DMC officers hide the true value for 1 504 DMC debenture holders. The firm is charged with inflating the firm's financial standing before its January 1974 collapse. A similar suit for 118 5 million was filed earlier by DMC depositors.

Businessmen Negotiating Bank Purchase in Bluefield

A Bluefield group led by John F. Wilkinson and associates is negotiating to buy control of the Commercial Bank of Bluefield. About 30,000 shares exist, at $60 per share, with a sale expected to close in about two weeks. Previously held by the Ahoad and McClaugherty families.

Ford Plans Oil Price Controls Extension Action

Senate voted 62 to 29 to extend price controls on about 60 percent of U S oil through March 1 1976. President Ford proposed a phased end over 30 months and may send the plan to Congress soon. House Speaker Carl Albert said extension will pass quickly unless vetoed.

Mercer County forms development authority under Bluefield request

Mercer County Commission established a county wide development authority on Tuesday at the request of the Bluefield Area Development Authority. L. R. Coulling and Jack Lloyd presented the plan with Tinder named chairman. The group will oversee an industrial park east of the I 77 exchange, backed by about 1 million dollars in EPA grants and potential county bank loans.

Bank rechartering request denied in West Virginia

The Princeton Industrial Savings and Loan Co. had its application to recharter as Mountain Empire Bank rejected by the West Virginia Board of Banking and Financial Institutions. The board cited lack of public advantage, poor local conditions for sustained operation, and adequate existing banking services in the community. Local banks opposed the move, arguing current services meet needs and urging dismissal.

Parking Building To Be Used This Weekend At Terry

Bluefield officials plan a temporary opening of a Princeton Avenue parking structure with about 140 to 150 spaces for a downtown street fair. The 422 space facility, built by Corte Construction and designed by Alex Mahood, may close for four to five days before permanent opening.
