Brilliant defense helps Rodwell salvage 3NT in Yokohama match
In a 1991 World Team Championship prelim in Yokohama, North members Jeff Meckstroth and Eric Rodwell faced Tony Forrester and Andy Robson. Rodwell, defending with remarkable play, misdirected East’s clubs by allowing the ten of clubs to hold, then ducked through a sequence that enabled declarer to reach dummy and secure nine tricks, turning a potential failure into an excellent 3NT contract.
