Stocks ended a volatile session mixed with tech snapping a prior selloff while earnings worries weighed on blue chips. The Dow fell 2.13 points to 10,481.47 as the S P 500 rose 10.42 to 1,456.65 and the Nasdaq gained 97.07 to 3,960.17. IBM dropped another session, amid warnings on profits and a cautious outlook. Oracle and semiconductor names posted gains, while energy shares recovered after Saudi Arabia pledged more oil output.
The report notes $1.50 to $99.50 and Merck down $1,563 at $75,625. Advancing issues outnumbered decliners 4 to 3 on the NYSE with 943.37 million shares traded, slightly below Wednesday. Nasdaq breadth was weaker with three declines per two advances. The Russell 2000 rose 5.07 to 523.32.
