W C Pollok cashier of the bank swears the stated facts are true to the best of knowledge. He subscribes and is sworn before a notary on December 3rd, 1896 in Mercer County Virginia.
Noah Brooks describes the Khan of Tartary’s hunting setup. The emperor’s brothers Baian and Mingan, titled Chinuchi, command 10 000 men each, red and blue liveries, with 2 000 guarding mastiffs per body. They hunt with 5 000 dogs on either side, forming a long line across the plains for a full day’s chase. They must supply the khan’s court with 1 000 head of game daily from October to March, plus fish for three people per head of game.
A Washington publisher recalls seeking sun moon tides and calendar tables for an almanac. An expert demanded 300 for yearly calculations, while a Pittsburgh amateur mathematician charged six dollars total for 100 almanacs. His children compose the published tables.
State's Attorney McGuire advocates using peacocks and guinea fowls as alarms against intruders. He notes peacocks guard his place, with Howard county farmers confirming their vigilance, including James L. Hobbs who keeps six to eight on Senator Gorman's farm.

At a Bluefield common council meeting it was ordered a plank sidewalk be built on the west side of Allen Street from the end of the present walk to Bowles property, and on the east side from Evance store to the south end of the current walk. Property owners must build within thirty days or the city will construct and charge the cost. Dated December 26, 1896.
At a regular Bluefield common council meeting it was ordered a sidewalk be constructed on the east side of John Giles erect beginning at Johnstop street to the end of Kate J. Cather’s lot and on the south side of Giles street from the west end of the Bluefield Water Works and Improvement Company lot No 18, section 23 to the present walk. Property owners must comply within thirty days under street committee specifications or face consequences. Dated December 260, 1806.
