Former Mercer residents to be sentenced for home invasions

Joshua Small and Joni Amber Johnson, both formerly of Princeton, face sentencing for a 2018 spree across Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia involving six robberies, assaults, and kidnappings of elderly victims. They allegedly entered homes at gunpoint, stole valuables, and fled.

McDowell County Joins Second Amendment Sanctuary

Welch McDowell County commissioners approved a resolution designating the county as a Second Amendment sanctuary. Cecil Patterson said all commissioners supported it and residents have urged action. He cited fears elections may bring gun law changes and noted Virginia’s sanctuary movement as a model.

Cochran to oppose Sitler for Mercer Prosecuting Attorney

Princeton Republican Brian Cochran files to oppose incumbent George Sitler in Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney race ahead of the May 12 primary. Sitler, a Bramwell native, has worked in the office since 2005 and was elected to the position in 2016. No other filings were received by the deadline.

Walgreens to replace Rite Aid at Coal Heritage Road

Walgreens will assume Rite Aid’s spot on Coal Heritage Road and begin renovations Monday January 27. The pharmacy will remain open for prescriptions during construction. Walgreens Corporate Media Relations official said patients should experience no interruption to service.
