Near 30 million dollars eyed for cuts as lawmakers study weekend budget plan. Road commission funding trimmed and Governor's double emergency fund denied. Partlow faces opposition in battle over fiscal priorities.
In Charleston lawmakers scrutinize the proposed 85.68 million dollar budget as the governor defends necessary spending. Road, public works, and public assistance figures face cuts while tax revisions, including income and sales taxes, loom. A Democratic attorney considers a bid for attorney general as legislature overruns a prior veto.
Eight hundred southern West Virginia coal miners will meet in Charleston to elect delegates for the 1943 wage parley in New York. They represent United Mine Workers Districts 17 and 29 and will sit in the municipal auditorium Monday and Tuesday. John O Leary and John Owens will address the assembly, with Governor Neely possible. Delegates will form district and scale committees for the conference opening March 14 before agreements take effect.
