Hobart Elson Luke 67, native of McDowell County and longtime Little Rock resident, died Tuesday in Franklin Texas. A salesman and brother of W J Luke of War, he belonged to Bramwell Masonic Lodge York Rite Beni Kedem Shrine Charleston and Winfield Methodist Church Little Rock. Huse Red Witherspoon of 1047 Wayne Street Bluefield died suddenly Tuesday night at home. Body taken to Link ford and Richardson Funeral Home Bluefield pending funeral plans. Henry Sneed 73 of Ingleside Road Princeton died Wednesday afternoon in Bluefield Sanitarium. Body taken to Memorial Funeral Directory Princeton pending arrangements.

Pearl Elizabeth Fletcher of Bluefield to be buried at Rose lawn Memorial Gardens after a 2 p m service in Mercer Funeral Chapel. Pallbearers named for Lester and Fletcher include multiple local residents.

An all male jury in Summerville, Ga., convicted 18 year old Woodrow Whisman of Huntington, West Virginia, for the murder of Billy Copeland. The verdict followed a 1 hour 19 minute deliberation with no mercy recommended. Whisman faces death or life imprisonment on the final ruling.

A Greenbrier County welder James E. Whitlock 36 of Quinwood died after his bed caught fire from a cigarette. Neighbors reported smoke and firefighters found the body. a coroner's jury ruled the death accidental.
A station wagon belonging to A. E. McClanahan caught fire in Bluefield on Jefferson Street at 3 02 p m Wednesday due to a stuck needle valve causing gasoline to spray on the motor block. Fire Chief Gordon Damron said damage was estimated at 50 dollars.
The Bluefield Look team reports the city is a finalist among 22 for the American Cities Award. The feature covers progress in the million dollar capital improvement program and a three million dollar Bluefield Avenue Urban Renewal Project, industrial growth, and recovery after coal mine mechanization. Dr. William H. Gray, a 1933 Bluefield State College graduate, named to the Philadelphia Civil Service Commission by Mayor James H. So of Philadelphia.
