Ford Motor Co raw with high unsold inventory offers buyers of new small models rebates up to 500 dollars. Rebates mailed to buyers and run through February 28. 200 on Pintos Mavericks Comets. 300 on Mustang II hardtop and 2 plus 2. 500 on Mach I and Ghia. 500 on Capri 1974. 350 on SuperCab trucks.
President Ford told governors mayors and county officials that lifting the economy now rests with Congress and urged prompt action on his economic package. He defended higher energy taxes and a 5 percent cap on increases in Social Security benefits and federal programs, arguing rationing would be unsustainable. He warned sacrifice is needed to avoid deeper trouble.

He warned against popularity while aiming for right budgetary changes and questioned the natural gas shortage’s severity.
In Warfield Kentucky about 400 residents lack water after a pipeline supply from Kermit West Virginia is cut at night causing the line to freeze. Mrs Leonard Runyons whose husband is water company president describes hauling water and cleaning efforts as crews struggle to restore service.
Media Pennsylvania AP Arguments will be heard March 26 on whether to grant a new trial to former United Mine Workers Union President W A Tony Boyle, convicted in the 1969 murders of Joseph A Yablonski his wife and daughter. The Parole Board denied a role request from former UMW official William "Jurnblazer" in the case.
The Mercer County Board of Education will purchase the former Seaway Container Corp. site in east Princeton from Corte Construction Co. under a lease purchase plan. The three phase development aims to consolidate off campus operations, expand storage, and reduce future supply costs through bulk purchasing. Phase one includes finishing about half of the 96,000 square foot structure on roughly 14 acres along Hines and Rogers Streets.
