Mercer County considers school closings and consolidation
The Mercer County Board of Education discussed an internal report proposing cutting from 35 to 23 schools and reconfiguring districts. The plan would shift high schools to Bluefield and Princeton, close or repurpose Bramwell, Oakvale, and other facilities, and build four new elementary schools amid enrollment declines.

Audit details fund losses in 1987 investment pool

Six survive 35 days buried in Soviet quake rubble
Six men were rescued from a nine story Len inakan apartment building thirty five days after the Armen ian earthquake buried them in a small cellar with canned goods. Bush fills final cabinet posts with Watkins and Bennett
