A one day district meeting of the American Red Cross chapters was held in Bluefield to plan the nationwide March drive. Otto Land of Alexandria presided. Amelia Wenderoth and J Donald Peel attended. The Bluefield chapter elected officers for the year and adopted a fiscal amendment beginning July 1. About 75 people attended the morning session and 40 attended the evening gathering. Wheeling Steel reports a 10 2500 purchase of four acre tract in Steubenville area for industrial expansion.

No arrests in two Switchback robberies shock Powhatan run
State police reported no arrests yesterday in two robberies at the Pocahontas Fuel company store and post office at Switchback. Coal company inventories were incomplete to determine losses. About 200 in cash was taken from the post office after the safe was blown.

Two Calls Rout Firemen During Early Hours
Firemen were awakened twice Thursday night at 12 15 and 4 10. First, at the Capehar Hotel a car owned by Otis Wade of Court Street caught fire. Later, flames broke out in the basement of the Johns apartments on Virginia Avenue, forcing residents to flee in night clothes while smoke caused most damage and several kept chickens suffocated.
