Mercer men charged in puppy cruelty near Bluewell school
Two Mercer County men were arrested Thursday afternoon after one bludgeoned a puppy to death with a log in a yard beside Kinser Apartments in Bluewell. John Michael Wimmer and Justin McKinley Mitchelson, residents of the complex, were charged with felony animal cruelty. Wimmer admitted the killing at the scene while the dog’s owner is Mitchelson. The pair claimed the animal was sick and needed euthanasia.

Jeffrey William Sexton Jr., 27, of Virginia Beach, was found guilty by a jury of traveling across state lines to engage in sexual activity with a minor. He communicated with undercover officers posing as a 13 year old girl and traveled from Bluefield, Virginia to Bluefield, West Virginia on June 1, 2019, to meet the supposed child. The U S attorney notes multiple prior charges and ongoing investigations as his sentencing potential reaches up to 30 years.
