The United States Public Health Service and West Virginia officials oversaw 205 295 dollars in annual funding from an eight million dollar Social Security program to expand state health work. The Pocahontas Woman's club plans a 2 PM January meeting at the Methodist church with a 1:45 assembly to view an educational film on bread making at the Parade theater followed by a church auditorium business session. Also announced are a new baby Sylvia Ann Rohte and a Boy Scouts troop reorganized under Scoutmaster John Danke with eight boys registered and welcome to all local youths. Dr. W. T. Watkins will lead a four day Bible conference at First Methodist Church beginning next Sunday, with events through Wednesday and a banquet at 6 PM. A Pocahontas colliery basketball team beat Bland Street Wesleyan 84-29 in Bluefield league play led by Frank Stephen and Earl French, with several players from local high schools on the squad.

Eagle captured after seven foot wingspan hunt
In Midh Mountain near Plum Creek a farmer trapped a huge eagle seven feet tip to tip. The bird suffered minor injuries and is held in captivity at the Moya home. The same hunter has previously caught eagles and received a bounty from local sheep producers. Separately, Kathryn Cruise married Addorth Cruise in Abingdon on November 28, with both educated at Tazewell High School.
